Newton's Community Preservation Committee (CPC)
MISSION
Invest in community housing, historic resources, open space & recreation land
to preserve, restore & enhance Newton's character as a community of
diverse but interdependent people & places, both a “city of villages” and a “garden city.”

MEETINGS
Click below for
Newton's CPC meets monthly, and occasionally more often. All meetings are open to the public, but time is set aside for public comment only at those meetings designated as "public hearings."
Meeting locations are handicap accessible. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to persons requiring assistance. If you have a special need, please contact Newton ADA Coordinator Kathleen Cahill at least 2 days in advance of the meeting at 617.796.1125,   via email at kcahill@newtonma.gov or via TDD/TTY at 617.796.1089.
To receive our monthly email about upcoming meetings and other program news, contact Alice Ingerson at aingerson@newtonma.gov or 617.796.1144.

DUTIES
Under the Community Preservation Act, funds are granted through two steps:
  1. the CPC recommends an amount of funding for a project
  2. the local legislature votes to appropriate up to the recommended amount of  funding
The CPC may not appropriate funds directly, but the legislature may not appropriate CP funds without a CPC recommendation. Click below to learn more about the members and work of the CPC:
  • Newton's CPC   how members are appointed and their duties, under the state CPA and Newton's ordinance
  • Current Members' Biographies
  • Newton's CPA Ordinance   full text; in addition to requirements for appointments to the CPC, Newton's ordinance also specifies requirements for historic City properties preserved with CP  funds

Newton's Board of Aldermen & Its Committees
Under the Community Preservation Act, the CPC "proposes" but the local legislature "disposes" of funds. Newton's local legislature is its Board of Aldermen. Click below to learn more about the work of the Board and its committees:
